Dr. Ryan Janis Psychologist & Supervisor |

Years ago, Dr. Lindsay Kramer and I opened what could generously be described as a very small office in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. The single window looked directly at a giant concrete wall, and the property manager eventually informed us that our “office” had actually been designed as a supply closet. We made it work. From the very beginning, our focus wasn’t on the size of our space; it was on providing exceptional care. We worked hard, treated every client with compassion and respect, and built a reputation as a reliable, modern, and highly responsive psychotherapy practice. As word spread, our practice continued to grow. Today, Downtown Mind Wellness has expanded to 11 offices and a team of more than 25 clinicians providing psychotherapy, medication management, and psychological testing and assessment services. One of the things that makes me especially proud is seeing how our team has grown together. Dr. Lindsay Kramer became a licensed psychologist years ago and remains an integral part of our practice. Today, she supervises doctoral trainees of her own.
When you choose Downtown Mind Wellness, I’m confident you’ll find a therapist who is experienced, dependable, and genuinely invested in helping you overcome obstacles and become the best version of yourself. I’m incredibly proud of the team we’ve assembled. We function not just as colleagues, but as a family of professionals who continually challenge one another to learn, grow, and provide the highest quality care through collaboration.
If psychiatric medication is part of your treatment, our psychiatric nurse practitioners work closely with our therapists to ensure your care is coordinated, thoughtful, and comprehensive.
Ryan Janis, Psy.D. is the Founder and Clinical Director of Downtown Mind Wellness. With more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Janis is dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for both clients and clinicians. Dr. Janis earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University (NYU) before completing both his Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degrees at The California School of Professional Psychology, an APA-accredited program. Following graduate school, Dr. Janis completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Wright Institute, where he received extensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Today, he continues to teach this modality to doctoral interns through weekly didactic seminars and clinical supervision.
While psychoanalytic therapy remains a foundational aspect of his work, Dr. Janis is experienced in integrating a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He works with individuals and couples experiencing a broad range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, addiction, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and self-destructive behavioral patterns.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Janis is a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) appointed by the State of California, where he conducts independent medical-legal evaluations involving psychological injuries within the workers’ compensation system.
